![]() You can’t sand it (at least in the same way you sand solid wood and veneer), you can’t stain it. You know, the stuff that bubbles if you get it wet, or eventually just peels off. The most common type (found in many low-end-high-volume stores) is thermofused laminate, which is basically printed wood grain onto cheap particle board. So let’s get this part sorted first laminate is actually a man-made plastic product with a printed wood pattern. It also doesn’t help that when you search for “laminate furniture” on the internet, you’ll also see hundreds of photos of veneered furniture, which just perpetuates the confusion. ![]() ![]() Nine times out of ten, when people hear the word “veneer”, they *shudder* inside, and immediately think of LAMINATE. But let’s start with this question- WHAT IS VENEER? The truth is that there are pros and cons to both a solid wood piece and a veneered piece. It’s actually a very important question, for a number of reasons first being that it’s one of the first questions people ask me when inquiring about a piece, and secondly, because many people are under the impression that a wood veneer product is inferior to solid wood. I’ve been wanting to do a little blurb on this for some time now, and FINALLY am getting around to it.
